Discurso

Discurso is a composition for two organists, specially created for the duo 422play.
Arauxo used this title for his music as early as the 17th century. In this work it is quite literally an exchange of ideas, sometimes even a discussion between the two parties. The interplay largely consists of different layers that sound simultaneously. Repeated motifs are extended in one and shortened in the other, so that shifting patterns arise. Sometimes the organists even have to consciously play unequally in order to find each other again afterwards.

Below is a video of part of the work, recorded in Vianen.
This is followed by the recording of the entire work as it appears on the CD from Brussels.
How different it can sound on another organ!
