As the title says: three parts, which can be played in this order, but just as well separately.
Toccata de ma Esquerra is a title taken from a work by Juan Cabanilles, a short piece with a solo for the left hand. In this newly composed Toccata, the left hand also often has a solo part, but the castagnette rhythm at the beginning also gave rise to this Spanish title.
In the videos below, some fragments are played, followed by a brief explanation of this work.
Impromptu is also a title that is known from existing music, but also means that the inspiration is a spontaneous idea; here a simple motif of three consecutive notes, which is gradually treated more freely. The solo at the end (again for the left hand) seems to break away from this, but nevertheless concludes with the three-tone motif rising three times.
Jigg, an old name for the fast dance Gigue, Giga or Jig, but currently also a form of Hiphop.
It is in triple movement, as in the old gigues, but a repeated motif in the pedal maintains an irregular rhythm, against a ‘folk’-like tune that develops into a harmonized melody. There are many repetitions at first, but after a short middle section in which the melody is heard in longer notes, the changes and combinations follow one another more rapidly until a climax in which the theme is heard in two speeds simultaneously.
Below is also a video with a complete performance of Jigg.
